Catch the playful antics of monkeys and beautiful city views at Swayambhunath temple. Also, take time to disappear in Kathmandu's old city bazaars, public squares, and former royal palaces at Kathmandu Durbar Square.

We take our scenic flight to Lukla early in the morning, which takes about 30 to 40 minutes. We then have to make the final preparations for the trekking. Following the route downhill, we make to reach Phakding (2610m) after about 3 hours. In the evening, if time allows, we explore around the Buddhist monasteries and monuments in Phakding. We stay overnight at a guesthouse.

Of course, today is going to be challenging day for us. We have to make our route to Namche, the gateway of Everest itself. So, following through the riverbank of Dudh Koshi River, we gently begin to rise through the rhododendron and magnolia forests with giant fir trees, which eventually bring us to the village of Jorsalle. Jorsalle is entry point of Sagarmatha National Park, where we have to show our trekking permits and TIMS. After a brief stop-over lunch, the climb proceeds towards Namche Bazaar passing through the National Park area. We eventually reach at Namche, a delightful mountain town and so-called Sherpa Capital of Solukhumbu. We check into some guesthouse to stay overnight.

Today, we dedicate our whole day for the acclimatization or we can visit around the Khumjung village and Everest View Hotel Everest and witness the amazing views of Himalayas including Everest itself.

From Namche today, we begin our pleasant walk through the forest with magnificent views of mountains until Kenjoma and the trail goes uphill towards Mung Danda. After having lunch at Mung Danda and overlooking the views of stunning Amadablam, Thamserku, Khangteka, Kongde, Kusum Kangru, and Kongde-Ri, we head down to the riverside. Continuing the trail, move through the forest areas exploring the beautiful birds like Himalayan Munal, Lama Gaya and various vultures and other wild animals like Musk Deer, Himalayan Thar, Yak and so on. We eventually reach our destination, Dole, for overnight stay.

However, today's walk is not going to be that strenuous, we make an early start from Dole today. We march through spectacular natural beauty today. It takes around five hours to reach Machhermo. Well, there's a legend about Machhermo. It's been said that at Machhermo, Yeti has killed three yaks and attacked a Sherpa women while she was collecting the Yak dung for firewood. You will be hearing such stories from Sherpas and guides on the way.

After the morning breakfast at Machhermo, we move onwards along various lakes of Gokyo. Continuing gradually uphill walk, we have lunch at Gokyo, where we stay overnight at a local guesthouse.

We will be hiking up to Gokyo Ri today. Gokyo Ri is regarded as one of the best viewpoints for Everest. Don't forget to witness and take the snapshots of the wonderful Everest from Gokyo Ri. After enjoying the mountain glory from Gokyo Ri, we then continue our trek towards Thagnag. We follow the trail via glacier called Nangpa. The best time to do this trek is from October through May. The excitement of this glacier walk is that you can hear the sound of glacial movement. We eventually reach at Thagnag, where we stay overnight.

Today, we start before sunrise at 4 or 5 am to reach the pass by 9am. The weather conditions can turn unfavorable during noontime, so we start early in the morning. We cross over an altitude of 5420m where we could be exposed to strong winds if we cross too late. As we reach the top, we are rewarded by the magnificent views of Everest and other mountains. At noon, we start descending towards Dzongla. There will be very basic accommodation at Dzongla. Stay overnight at a local guesthouse.

Today's route will be rather shorter and easier taking you to Lobuche. It takes around four hours to reach Lobuche. Stay overnight at a local guesthouse.

Today is going to be the difficult walk along the Khumbu Glacier. We ascend up to EBC, the closest we can get to Mount Everest without mountaineering equipment. Enjoy the spectacular views of Khumbu Icefall and return back to Gorakshep for night.

Today's walk will also be quite difficult yet rewarding for us. Most of the morning, we climb towards Kalapatthar, one of the best cited viewpoints at Everest region offering you probably the best views of Mount Everest. The ascent is demanding but the panorama it offers makes you forget everything else. We can get to enjoy the beautiful views of Pumori, Nuptse, Chagatse, Lhotse, and numerous other peaks. After spending some memorable moments at Kalapatthar, we descend to Gorakshep again and then to Pheriche. Stay overnight at a local guesthouse.

From Pheriche, we take a slightly different route down to Orsho then to Pangboche. Here's the oldest monastery in the region which contains what is said to be the scalp and bones of a Yeti. We leave mountains behind us and descend through the Tyangboche Monastery before continuing back to Namche. We stay overnight at a local guesthouse.

Marking the end of our trek, today, we will trek finally towards Lukla. It takes about six hours from Namche to reach Lukla. We stay overnight at a guesthouse.

We catch our early morning Lukla to Kathmandu flight. On arriving Kathmandu, you transfer to your hotel or spend the remaining time for exploring any sights you have missed out during your first day in Kathmandu or you can just choose to go for last minute shopping. You will be joining our farewell dinner in the evening.

A Cold Feet representative will accompany you to the airport to catch your returning flight. We hope to see you again soon!

FAQ

There are many trekking routes in the Everest Region. Most of them begin with a short flight from Kathmandu takes you to Lukla. You trek uphill making your way past the Phakding to reach Namche Bazaar. From here, the trekking route depends upon the trek that you choose. The Everest Base Camp follows the route along Tengboche, Pangboche, Pheriche, Thukla, Lobuche, and Gorakshep to reach the Everest Base Camp. A number of treks follow this route either fully or in parts. Everest Panorama Trek, Everest Base Camp Luxury Trek, and EBC Cho La Pass Trek are a few examples. Similarly, another trekking route heads northwest to Thame and Lumde to cross Renjo La Pass (5360m) and reach Gokyo. Thereon, the route continues west and crosses Cho La Pass (5420m) to reach Lobuche and rejoins the EBC Trail. Another trekking route begins at Jiri and explores the Rolwaling region to reach Lukla and continue the trek from there. As such, there are many trekking routes in the Everest region.

The question about what the best time to trek Everest Region completely depends upon the experience that you are looking for. However, there are two major seasons for trekking they are Pre-monsoon/Spring (February, March, April) and Post-Monsoon/autumn (Late September, October, November). The temperature is perfectly mild and skies are much clearer giving the best possible view of the mountain ranges around. Also during these seasons the flora and fauna come to life. You get the opportunity to see the exotic wild species like snow leopard and blue sheep and also enjoy the beauty of hills covered with wildflowers. However, at high altitude, the weather always remains unpredictable. So expect the unexpected.

Located in a region susceptible to high altitude, the Everest trekking route is one of the most famous and highest trekking routes in the world. Typically it starts at an elevation of 2,840m in Lukla Airport and reaches the highest point of over 5,545m at Kalapatthar, the entire trek occurs in the two altitude regions: ‘high altitude’ and ‘very high altitude’. Therefore, there is a high chance of suffering from AMS and its better to look out for symptoms. The major symptoms includes nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and restlessness.

Most of the trekking trails are filled with tea houses so, you need not worry much about the internet and charging batteries. These lodges will provide you Wi-Fi services; however, may charge some additional money. The same also applies to charge ports. So, we recommend you buy a local SIM card and personal charging cable with a power bank.

The Everest region is majorly known for being the home to the highest mountain in the world- the Mt. Everest (8848m). Besides this, the region is popular for beautiful panoramic views of different mountain ranges like the Mt Everest (8848m), Lhotse (8516m), Makalu (8485m), Cho Oyu (8201m), Ama Dablam (6856m), and Island Peak (6189m). Similarly, the warm hospitality of Sherpa people is also one of the things that makes this region a famous destination amongst travel enthusiasts. Other than this, the region is known for the wide variety of unique vegetation and exotic species of wild animals.

Lukla Airport is often labeled as the most dangerous airport in the world due to its location and altitude. As such, the weather at this altitude can change within a few hours which leads to flight cancellation and delays. However, in the months between October and May, the flights quite are regular. In case of flight cancellation or even delay, you might have to stay an additional day at the Lukla. Therefore, we highly recommend all visitors to allocate a few contingency days during the trip to Nepal.

Everest region is located at extreme altitude so, preparing yourself for the trek is highly important. The trek requires a certain level of physical fitness. Also preparing yourself for the trip in order to tackle the issues of altitude sickness is also a must. For this, you can take special training classes or research about the dos and don’ts of trekking. Other than this, adding up cardio and strength training in your routine is a must before the trip.
