Coldfeet Adventure Nepal organizes this Helambu Bear Track Trek for our guests from around the world as forests of Langtang and Helambu are famous for sloth bears.  This trek will give you the awesome opportunity to explore the sloth bears in that region. You will be able to explore the noisy grunts and snorts of sloth bears. Actually, those bears emit such grunts and snorts, and it wanders alone usually at night in search of insects and fresh fruits.  

During Helambu Bear Track Trek, you will be able to explore the bear and their habitats. Sloth bears are solitary creatures actually and they are generally nocturnal. Well, they grow up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) in length and males can weigh up to 310 pounds (140 kilograms) while females weigh up to 210 pounds (95 Kilograms). And after six to seven month gestation period, they normally give birth to a litter of two cubs in an underground den. Cubs often ride on their mother's back and sloth bears are considered to be vulnerable animals. Sloth bears are threatened by habitat loss and are sometimes captured for use in performances or hunted because of their aggressive nature and destructing the crops.

Itineraries

Upon arriving in Kathmandu (Tribhuvan International Airport), a Cold Feet representative will meet you and help you transfer to your hotel by private bus. Enjoy a free evening to explore Kathmandu and recover from your jet-lag. Meet the Cold Feet staff during a short pre-tour briefing before dinner.

A full-day guided tour around Kathmandu city's historical and cultural landmarks. Visit Bouddhanath Stupa and Pashupatinath Temple, the most important sites of Buddhism and Hinduism in Nepal. Catch the playful antics of the monkeys and beautiful city views at Swayambunath temple. Get lost in Kathmandu's old city bazaars, public squares, and former royal palaces at Durbar Square.
 

Today, after taking our morning breakfast, we will drive from Kathmandu to Timbu. On the way, we will be passing via Melamchi Bazaar. Well, Timbu is a small Brahmin village with typical settlements of Tamang and Sherpa people. We will stay overnight at Timbu.
 

From Timbu, today, we will move towards Melamchi Gaon. It takes approx. 5 hours to reach Melamchi Gaon, which is a beautiful and welcoming Sherpa village. And here is where we enter the area of Helambu. We will stay overnight at Malamchi Gaon.

From Malamchi Gaon, we will trek to Melamchi Upstream Forest Camp. The trek will take approx. 6 hours. Today, we will make our preparation for tomorrow’s bear exploration activities. 

Today will be our Bear exploration day. So, after taking our morning breakfast, we enter into the forest area in search of sloth bears. You will have enough chances to spot the sloth bears during the visit.

After exploring the bears in Helambu region, we retrace back the same route to Melamchi Gaon today. Melamchi is the first Sherpa village in the Helambu Area.

Today, after taking our morning breakfast, we will follow our trail to Tharepati from Melamchi Gaon which finally will take us to Kutumsang. En route, we will be passing through villages and rhododendron forest with magnificent views. We will stay overnight at Kutumsang.
 

Today, we will trek to Chisapani from Kutumsang which takes about 7 hours. We will be passing through meadows and fields. We will be passing via Pathi Bhanjyang and Gul Bhanjyang and we will reach at Chisapani after 7 hours approx. where will will stay overnight. 

Today, we will move from Chisapani. Actually, Chisapani is a weird place with magnificent views including Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Langtang, Rolwaling, Gaurishankar, and Sesapangma among many others. We will follow our trail through the forests of rhododendron and oaks and finally reach at Sundarijal. From Sundarijal, we will drive back to Kathmandu and enjoy farewell dinner in the evening. 

A Cold Feet representative will accompany you to the airport to catch your returning flight. We hope to see you again soon!
