Wildlife Safari | Chitwan National Park

Chitwan National Park is widely known as one of the best national parks in Asia which covers an area of 967 square kilometers. Chitwan National Park was declared a World Heritage Natural Site by UNESCO in 1984. Chitwan is considered a very popular jungle safari destination because of its thriving wildlife population and easy accessibility from both Kathmandu and Pokhara. 

Well, Chitwan offers a very diverse ecosystem and the predominant vegetation of Sal (Shorea robusta) covers around 70 percent of the forest. 20% of the national park is covered by grassland with as many as 50 species of grasses. Most spectacular among these are the elephant grass which attain heights up to 8m. The recorded species of animals in Chitwan National Park is 43 and there are an estimated 600 great one-horned rhinoceros and 106 tigers.

Talking about other mammals that are found in Chitwan National Park, we must include Leopard, Wild Elephant, Fresh Water Dolphin, Gaur, Sloth Bear, Langur, Stripped Hyena, Wild Dog, Rhesus Monkey, Hog Deer etc. In addition to that, the most spectacular reptile found in the national park is Gharial. Rest of the reptiles include Mugger, Python, Pangolin, Tortoise, Monitor Lizard, King Cobra and other 19 species of snake. Also, Chitwan National Park is the home of 485 different bird species.
