Pikey Trek

Pikey peak is one of the tallest hills of Solu. In July a great celebration takes place here as the locals worship their tribe god which is the eastern Chyabo Pikey.  The trail passes through Jiri to Chaulakharka to Ngaur to reach the Pikey Hill area. Then, another trail leads us from Pikey Danda to Phaplu through Panch Pokhari and Tamakhani which is located north east from Salleri. Well, Pikey Danda is considered to be one of the most popular destinations for its sunrise and sunset views and one can take pleasure in the magnificent sight of the peaks beyond the Kathmandu valley to the plains along with the Himalayan range of Mount Everest, Mount Makalu, Mount Kanchenjunga, Mount Annapurna, Mount Gaurishankar, Mount Lhotse, Mount Lhotseshar, Mount Nuptse, Mount Ama Dablam, Mount Numbur, Mount Khatang, Mount Karyalung, Mount Shishapangma, along with Mera Peak and Thamserku.

Apart from this Himalayan panorama, we can also explore the beautiful forests with rhododendron flowers, magnolia, and wild orchid. Day 01: Arrive at Kathmandu

Upon arriving in Kathmandu (Tribhuvan International Airport), a Cold Feet representative will meet you and help you transfer to your hotel by private bus. Enjoy a free evening to explore Kathmandu and recover from your jet-lag. Meet the Cold Feet staff during a short pre-tour briefing before dinner.


Day 02: Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing

A full-day guided tour around Kathmandu city's historical and cultural landmarks. Visit Bouddhanath Stupa and Pashupatinath Temple, the most important sites of Buddhism and Hinduism in Nepal. Catch the playful antics of the monkeys and beautiful city views at Swayambhunath temple. Get lost in Kathmandu's old city bazaars, public squares, and former royal palaces at Durbar Square.


Day 03: Fly from Kathmandu to Phaplu

Today, we will catch the early morning flight which takes 35 minutes. And, the trek from Phaplu to Salleri and it takes about four hours. You see the local market in Salleri and enjoy a visit to local monasteries such as Chewang monastery. We will stay overnight at Phaplu.


Day 04: Trek from Salleri to Ghunsa via Dorpu

Today we will trek from Salleri to Ghunsa via Dorpu. And it takes about six hours. En route, you can experience of Tamang, Magar and Sherpa culture. Apart from this, you can also enjoy the views of beautiful sceneries of mountains and landscapes. We will stay overnight at Ghunsa.


Day 05: Trek from Ghunsa to Pattale via Kerung

Today, we will trek from Ghunsa to Pattale via Kerung, which takes about eight hours. We can visit monasteries, mani walls and Buddhist stupa at Kerung. And here we will find the mixed settlements of Tamang, Magar, Sherpa and others. Well, the panoramic views will mesmerize you completely. We will stay overnight at Pattale.


Day 06: Trek from Pattale to Jhapre

Well, today we will start trekking from Pattale to Jhapre and it takes about six hours. On the way, we can see wild orchids on the way. Here you can view beautiful landscapes along the Solu Okhaldhunga border. There are monasteries and Buddhist stupa in Jhapre. The cultural show performed here is worth of watching. We will stay overnight at Jhapre.


Day 07: Trek from Jhapre to Pikey

Today, our trail will be from Jhapre to Pikey, and crossing this trail takes about six hours. And today we will be experiencing high altitude vegetation along with diverse Himalayan flora and fauna. We will find centuries-old monasteries and Buddhist stupas. We can see the yak herding at different places. En route we will be accompanied by unique landscapes and sceneries. Actually, this particular area is feasible for marathon and mountain bike race.


Day 08: Trek from Pikey to Junbesi

Today, we will start out trek at Pikey and our destination will be to reach Junbesi which will take approx. five hours. Our trail goes from Pikey to Junbesi via Pikey peak. On the way up to Pikey peak you can see sunrise view and mountain peaks from Kanchenjunga to Dhaulagiri including Everest. Then, we will walk down through unique landscape after crossing Pikey peak to Junbesi valley. We will stay overnight at Junbesi.


Day 09: Trek from Junbesi to Thuptenchholing and trek back to Junbesi

Today, we will hike from Junbesi to Thptenchholing and again return back to Junbesi again. This takes about four hours. We will visit Thuptenchholing Monastery today. Here at Thuptenchholing, we can observe traditional Tibetan medicinal therapy. Well, taking a tour to Junbesi village will add long lasting experience. We will be tasting local food and drink. We will stay overnight at Junbesi.


Day 10: Trek from Junbesi to Phaplu

Today, we will trek from Junbesi to Phaplu which takes about six hours. We can enjoy delicious local food and participate in cultural program. This will end our Pikey Trek. We will stay overnight at Phaplu and enjoy the farewell dinner with our trek crew and Sherpas.


Day 11: Fly from Phaplu to Kathmandu

Today, we will catch our morning flight to Kathmandu from Phaplu. The flight takes about 35 minutes to reach Kathmandu. And after arriving at Kathmandu, we will take our remaining time to explore around the city or last minute shopping.


Day 12: Final Departure

A Cold Feet representative will accompany you to the airport to catch your returning flight. We hope to see you again soon!

I am now in my final year at university in England but a few summers back I was lucky enough to be part of a trek adventure in the Everest region organised by ColdFeet.
