Everest Three Pass (Kongmo La, Renjo La, Cho La) Trek

For those who are seeking the true adventure and yearning for doing something different and want to view everything that the Khumbu Region offers, then the Everest Three Pass Trek is going to be the best and authentic package. This trek provides us the superb opportunity to visit the Everest Base Camp along with Kalapatthar and Gokyo Valley and Gokyo Lake and Gokyo Ri and more. This trek especially introduces a route to the remote and untouched Nangpa La Valley, Sherpa Village of Marlung, Thame villages as well through the major remote villages and valleys. In addition to that, we will make complete high level circuit via world famous demanding three Everest Passes Kongma La (5535m/17782ft), Cho La (5420m/17782ft), and Renjo La (5340m/17520ft) taking the help of classical route.
Our Everest Three Passes Trek with a sightseeing day in Kathmandu which offers a brief exploration of the temples, bazaars, shrines and restaurants of Kathmandu. We then take a stimulating mountain flight to Tenzing-Hillary Airport at Lukla on the following day followed by trek up through the classic route to the Sagarmatha National Park playing with mighty Dudh Koshi River, Gompas and monasteries, colorful landscapes in the land enclosed by the soaring peaks. And after reaching the summit of Kongma La we compose our way to the Everest Base Camp we marvel at the spectacle Khumbu icefall cascading from Western Cwm. Then our trek to the viewpoint of Kalapatthar is followed by the tough Climb through Cho La that finally takes us to the cobalt-blue lakes at Gokyo. Then, we make our way to next pass the Renjo La. After spending a night in Marlung, our trek follows a little of the route used for centuries by Tibetan Traders via Nangpa La to get to Thame. We finally drop down to Lukla and fly back to Kathmandu.

Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu [1300m/4263ft]
Upon arriving in Kathmandu (Tribhuvan International Airport), a Cold Feet representative will meet you and help you transfer to your hotel by private bus. Enjoy a free evening to explore Kathmandu and recover from your jet-lag. Meet the Cold Feet staff during a short pre-tour briefing before dinner.

Day 02: Kathmandu Sightseeing and Trek Preparation
A full-day guided tour around Kathmandu city's historical and cultural landmarks. Visit Bouddhanath Stupa and Pashupatinath Temple, the most important sites of Buddhism and Hinduism in Nepal. Catch the playful antics of the monkeys and beautiful city views at Swayambhunath temple. Get lost in Kathmandu's old city bazaars, public squares, and former royal palaces at Durbar Square.

Day 03: By Plane: Kathmandu to Lukla (2840 m/9320ft) and trek to Phakding (2652m/8700ft), 40 minutes flight, 3-4 hrs walk
Today, after having breakfast in the morning, we will catch the morning flight to Lukla. Upon arriving at Lukla, we meet our Sherpa guides and then begin the trek following the Dudh Koshi Valley to the village of Phakding. We will say at Mountain Resort overnight.

Day 04: Phakding – Namche (3440m/11280ft): 5-6 hours
Today, there is a climb up to the trading town of Namche Bazaar however halfaway up the hill we are rewarded with our first views of Everest and Lhotse. In fact, Namche is the largest town in the Khumbu region and has superb views of Thamserku, Khumbila, and Kwangde. We will stay overnight at Guest House.

Day 05: Acclimatization day at Namche
This is the very first of two essential acclimatizing days in Namche Bazaar to help your body adapt to the gain in altitude. Today, we take a morning walk up above Namche to the Everest view point. On the way back, we have lunch next to the interesting Sherpa Culture & Everest Mountaineering Museum which is well worth a visit. After that, we return to the lodge and explore around

Day 06: Namche – Tengboche(3860m/12660ft): 5-6 hours
After breakfast, we start our trek with pleasant walk trail through the forest with magnificent view of mountains until Kenjoma and the trail goes downhill towards Phungi Tanga. After reaching at Phungi Tanga, we have our lunch. Then, we climb uphill around 2 hours to finally reach at Tengboche which is the highest monastery in the world. From Tengboche, we can have the magnificent views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nupse, Amadablam, Thamseru and Khantega.

Day 07: Tengboche—Dingboche (4360m/14300ft) 5-6 hours
After breakfast, the trail descends down from Tengboche through the rhododendron forest to Dengboche and crossing a bridge over the raging Imja Khola. After having lunch at Pangboche, following the Imja Khola we gradually move uphill until we reach at Dingboche.

Day 08: Dingboche—Chhukung (4750m/15580ft) 3-4 hours
Today, the walk is pleasant as we leave Dingboche through stone-walled fields and alpine landscape. Then, we follow the trail from Dingboche through Imja Khola valley to land raven by glacier moraines amidst towering formidable mountains. After that, we walk leisurely as our schedule for today is only 3-4 hours trek. On the way, we will enjoy the wonderful views of Ama Dablam and Lhotse. Passing through the moraine wall, Island peak, we finally reach at Chhukung. We might choose to hike to the rocky knoll of Chhukung Ri which offers stunning views of Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Island Peak, Makalu, and several others including Baruntse. We will stay overnight in Chhukung.

Day 09: Rest day at Chhukung
Well, trekking experts strongly recommend acclimatization in Chhukung before doing the Kongma La pass. And we are not supposed to stay inactive today. The view from Chhukung and further up the valley on the moraines towards Island Peak (6189m) is tremendous. Also, we can get this opportunity to climb the Chhukung Ri or climb to the base camp of Island Peak.

Day 10: Chhukung—Kongma La (5535m/18159ft)—Lobuche (4940m/16210ft) 6-7 hours
Today, we start our trek from Chhukung. We will carry plenty of water and some snacks and packed lunch as there is no teashops on the way. We really enjoy the remoteness of the area and absolute nature. On the way we will enjoy the beautiful views of Amphu Lapcha, Island peak valley, Kongma La and so on. Finally, we will reach at Lobuche for overnight stay.

Day 11: Lobuche—Gorakshep (5170m/16961ft)—EBC (5364m/17594ft)/ Kalapatthar (5545m/18192ft)—Gorakshep 8-9 hours
Today will be the longest day of our entire trek. So make early morning start, and our trek continues gently to climb and sometimes direct ascent to nearby glacier and moraine. Following this trail will finally bring you to Gorakshep for our breakfast. After the breakfast, we continue our trek to EBC with packed lunch. EBC offers you the beauty of Khumbu Icefall on the base of the tallest mountain in the world. Again, we have to return back to Gorakshep today.

Day 12: Gorakshep—Kalapatthar/Everest Base Camp—Lobuche (4940m/16207ft) 8-9 hours
This days trek will take you to Kalapatthar from Gorakshep. After arriving at this small rocky peak Kalapatthar, you will be enjoying the amazing panorama of Everest, Nupse, Lhotse, along with Khumbu Glacier. Kalapatthar is top-of-the-world finest photographic viewpoint. Then we stroll back to Lobuche.

Day 13: Lobuche—Dzongla (4830m/15850ft) 3-4 hours
Trek today is going to be very short compared to the previous or next day’s walk. Our path to Dzongla branches off from the main trail some distance from Lobuche. We can see the magnificent views of Ama Dablam and Kangtega Thamserku on the way ahead. Crossing various ascends and descends will take us to Dzongla for tonight’s stay.

Day 14: Dzongla-Cho La (5368m/17611ft)—Thagnak (4680m/15350ft)—Gokyo (4800m/15580ft) 7-8 hours
Early morning as we get out of our lodge, we are greeted by the mesmerizing sight of Cholatse looming over. Our walk begins as we traverse through a spur extending westward from Dzongla. Then, we cross Cho La pass. The trail brings us to Ngozumpa glacier which is the longest glacier of Nepal. Then we will also get chance to be at Gokyo lakes on the series of six lakes. We will stay overnight at Gokyo.

Day 15: Rest day in Gokyo-Gokyo Ri [5357m/17,575 ft]: 3-4 hours
This day will be an exceptional opportunity for acclimatization and rest at Gokyo or we can also grasp the day as an opportunity to climb Gokyo Ri to enjoy the scene from the best viewpoint of Everest Region. We will be viewing many beautiful and highest peaks surrounding us.

Day 16: Gokyo- Renjo La [5360m/17585 ft]-Marlung [4210m/13,810 ft]: 7-8 hrs
Today, we will start trekking from Gokyo and we will climb Renjo La. So, we start at down today as we have to trace our trail up to the Marlung today after the conquest of Renjo La. We will be enjoying the dazzling panorama of Himalayas around and glaciers on our trail.

Day 17: Marlung-Namche Bazzar: 5-6 hours
The descent from Marlung to Thame follows a traditional route used for centuries by the Tibetan traders. And down from the Marlung, we cross the Bhote Koshi and descend to Taranga. The trail then goes through the valley of Langmuche Khola. Overlooking Thame is its famous Gompa situated some of the fields on a hill to the west. Colorful Mani Rimdu festival featuring colorful mask dances is held in this Gompa in May. Then, we climb down after crossing a bridge after we eventually reach Samde. Following the trail will finally bring us to Namche again. We will stay overnight at Namche.

Day 18: Namche Bazzar-Lukla: 6-8 hours
During these days, we will be returning back to Lukla. And Lukla will be the end point of our Everest Three Passes Trek.

Day 19: Lukla - Kathmandu: 40 min flight
Today, we will catch our morning flight to Kathmandu from Lukla. And after arriving at Kathmandu, we will take our remaining time to explore around the city.

Day 20: Final Departure
A Cold Feet representative will accompany you to the airport to catch your returning flight. We hope to see you again soon!

I am now in my final year at university in England but a few summers back I was lucky enough to be part of a trek adventure in the Everest region organised by ColdFeet.
