Chadar Trek

Chadar Trek is known as one of the wildest trek in the world. Actually, it’s a primal trek on the Zanskar River which is sheltered in ice each winter. During this trek, we get an opportunity to walk on the ice and traverse across the gorge walls where the rivers thaws and bed in the caves that have been used by local travellers over centuries. In every days walk, we will come to explore the legends, history, culture and magical landscapes. Chadar trek follows an ancient trail which is used by the Zanskaris during the days of the Silk Road when they walked this frozen highway all the way to Leh with wares they would trade for essentials.

Of course, Chadar trek is a perfect trekking destination for those who seek adventure, bragging rights, and actions. Coldfeet Adventure always welcomes you for this wonderful Chadar Trek in India.

Day 01: Arrive in Delhi
After arriving at Delhi airport, we will meet you on the airport and transfer you to the hotel.

Day 02: Fly from Delhi to Leh (3500m)

Today, we transfer to Delhi airport to catch the early flight to Leh. After arriving at Leh, we will then transfer to the hotel. Well, Leh is also the western tip of Tibet’s Changthang plateau. In terms of climate, culture, geology, and religion, Tibet and Leh are very similar. Leh, being a cold desert, barren mountains hostile to the most forms of flora and fauna, and it’s not the most convenient town to ease into. We will stay overnight at the guest house.

Day 03: Acclimatization day at Leh, and local sightseeing
We spend this day allowing our bodies to adapt to the high-altitude and soak in the local culture. Today, we will visit some of the monasteries in and around Leh such as the Shey, Hemis, and Thiksey. Well, there is also the option of visiting the old Leh Palace and the Khardung La Pass with world’s highest motorable road. We will stay overnight at the guest house.

Day 04: Drive to Chilling (3550m) and trek to Shingra (3100m)

Today, in the morning, we leave Leh and drive past Nemu, the confluence of Zanskar and Indus rivers. The Zanskar valley is perhaps one of the most remote Himalayan valleys in India and the true sense of remoteness becomes more evident as we approach our first camp. We will stay overnight at our camp.

Day 05: Trek from Shingra to Dibyokma

The Zanskar gorge is as beautiful as the bride on the river Kwai. The gorge can’t boast to be in a Hollywood flick yet. And the barren landscape changing colors with the movement of the sun is one of the most rewarding sights in the Himalayas. We will stay overnight at camp.

Day 06: Trek from Dibyokma to Nerak Pullu (3390m)

Today, we continue walking in the gorge which is inaccessible in any other season and come across some stunning frozen waterfalls. Well, an old and dilapidated bridge on the river which is claimed by the villagers to be more than 1000 years old marks Nerek and we leave the river to climb for 10 minutes to a small campsite. We will stay overnight at camp.

Day 07: Trek to Lingshed

Today, we continue walking on the river for about an hour before we leave the Zanskar river and follow the Lingshed nala. And in the village, we stay with a family in their home. We will go to Lingshed village for a homestay.

Day 08: Rest Day. Around Lingshed

Today will be our rest day. The more adventurous can visit the Lingshed monastery where the monks treat us with tea. We will stay overnight at Lingshed village.

Day 09: Trek to Nerak Pullu

Today, we retrace our steps back to the infamous Nerak Pullu. And we will stay overnight at Camp.

Day 10: Trek to Dibyokma

We will trek back to Dibyokma and stay there tonight.

Day 11: Trek to Tilat Sumdo

Today, we trek all the way down till Tilat so the next day will be a shorter walking day and we can get back to Leh in daylight. If the group is up to it, we can make a short excursion to search for some firewood and have our final bonfire of the trip. We will stay overnight at camp.

Day 12: Trek to Alam Tillit and later drive to Leh

We will trek to Alam Tillit and then drive to Leh today. And in Leh, we will stay at guesthouse overnight.

Day 13: Fly from Leh to Delhi

Today, we will transfer to the airport and catch our early morning flight to Delhi. In the spare time, we can visit the famous Hindu Temple Akshardham, Red Ford and Laxminarayan Temple as well as old part of the town like Chandni Chowk. Overnight, we will stay at the hotel in Delhi.

Day 14: Final Departure from Delhi

Today, you will fly for your own destination from Delhi.

What Client Say

I have made a trip to Helambu circuit with Cold Feet in March 2009 and had a great time. Our Guide Suman did fantastic job. I will recommend Cold Feet to any of my friends and family who are traveling to Nepal. Tom Manzo Tucson Arizona

November 2013 - I just returned from the most amazing trek to Annapurna Base Camp with ColdFeet! Gopi and his staff were so helpful before I even arrived in Nepal and continue to be during my stay in this amazing country! Sunaina was an awesome, fun and caring guide. I would highly recommend ColdFeet to anyone looking for tours/treks in the Nepal area! jackie o. CANADA

Hey We just came back from a trip to langtang. Organization was very efficient, we planned the trip in two days and just went right away to Langtang! Beautiful place to see, good accommodation and very friendly guide, thanks Coldfeet! Nicolas Lacombe FRANCE

Great trek to Gosainkund lake arranged at short notice by Cold Feet, followed by rafting and cultural visits. We turned up at the desk in Thamel and Gopi organised all the rest for us at very short notice. Great guiding and even evening entertainment with puzzles and tricks. John Edwards turnipedwards@virginmedia.com

Today and yesterday I had an amazing two day sight seeing tour, in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Patan and lots of other places, organized by ColdFeet! Unfortunately I could not finish my original trek to ME base camp because I got ill and had to get back. Waiting for my friends, the lovely people from ColdFeet helped me get back on my feet and made my trip - although slightly different as planned - one I won't ever forget en enjoyed very much! So... thanks! Ilona Zwolle, The Netherlands

What I like best about the team at ColdFeet is not only are they knowledgeable guides and leaders, but they have the ability to help you get under the skin and really experience this wonderful country. Not only did we did have a great time trekking the Annapurnas and rafting the Trisuli, but we left Nepal feeling we had made lifelong friends. Tom, South London Tom email.tom.griffin@gmail.com

I am now in my final year at university in England but a few summers back I was lucky enough to be part of a trek adventure in the Everest region organised by ColdFeet. Gopi, who was in charge, lead 50 Wimbledon Explorer Scouts for roughly ten days. The trip was incredibly well organised and we all felt very safe under his and his support staffs' guidance. Not only this but because of Gopi's extensive experience in the region we were really able to make the most of everything that was around us. I would enthusiastically recommend ColdFeet to anyone looking to trek in Nepal, not least because aswell as being professional and reliable all the staff at ColdFeet are friendly and do their upmost to make sure everyone really has fun. I look forward to any opportunity to be in Nepal with ColdFeet again. Oliver Young London
